Two marvel movies and one you've never heard of

Happy monday everyone, it was quite a weekend. Ten year anniversary of 9/11, first games of the nfl season, and two, count em two, comic book movies going to dvd.
I think i'm gonna work my way backwards on this one. Tomorrow is the release of Thor, the marvel viking hunk god yea. i didn't mind the movie, it was ok for what it was. How ever i do feel bad for Thor, having to be released just four days after X-men First Class. It's kinda like going to a concert where the Stones open up for Right said Fred. yea you can handle Right said Fred, it has it's place, but after the Stones it had no chance of coming off as impressive.
The plot was pretty standard for Thor. Loki's a jerk, there you go. But the visuals and special effects i admit were top notch. On blu-ray the cgi was pretty awesome, and i'm not a cgi fan. Still i get the feeling they were making plans for the new Avenger's movie hittin theatres this may, and some exec said hey, we have a movie for Hulk, Ironman, and Captain America... what about Thor? To which the boss in the room replied, yea sure.
X-men First Class! Holy balls i love this movie. For years DC has been putting Marvel to shame as far as the overall quality of it's movies and cartoons, but finally Marvel does something right and we are all the better for it. Granted it's no Dark Knight, but this is another rare comic book inspired movie that you can show to someone who's never glanced at a comic, and they'll still enjoy it. This movie touches on intense social issues that make the X-men universe so entertaining, while still delivering the "oh that was bad ass" battles you wanna see between mutants. I even got a little teary eyed at the end. Bottom line, watch it.
And then a movie you've never heard of. Hesher. For having Joseph Gorden Levitt, Natalie Portman (yes she's in two releases on tuesday), and Rainne Wilson in it's lead roles, it's pretty surprising i never heard of it until it came into my store. So with a cast like that i had to take it home and watch it. Yea, and i haven't shut up about it since. This movie was such a wonderful surprise. Easiest way for me to describe this sleeper is imagine Garden State, but instead of Zach Braff the lead role is an alcoholic Metallica fan with a tattoo of a middle finger on his back. Oh yea. Oh hell yea. It's a definite drama, and i did tear up at the end. However there were times i was belly laughing out loud (miss piggy... you'll see). Everyone's messed up in the beginning and still messed up in the end, but they get a little better due to the wildly inappropriate but still beautiful philosophy of the title ass you want to love, Hesher. Academy award nomination for JGL i predict. Later guys.
