Trick R' Treat

Plot: The film is an anthology of four Halloween-related scary stories. One common element that ties the stories together is the presence of Sam (Quinn Lord), a mysterious pint-sized trick-or-treater wearing shabby orange pajamas with a burlap sack over his head. He makes an appearance in all the stories as a 'friendly-reminder' to those who break Halloween traditions.

Review: Holidays all have there own movies. From Christmas to the 4th of July, they get film treatment. One holiday that gets very little film treatment is Halloween. Reading this you might say, well that's ridiculous, I just watched a horror film yesterday. A horror film is not a Halloween movie. That's where Trick R Treat differentiates itself. It's a horror movie that follows four stories on Halloween night. It is a true Halloween movie. Now does that make it good. Yes and No

Let's get into the yes portion. The storytelling is top notch, as well as the soundtrack. Both do a great job setting the mood and creating a story with good characters. The standout segment is the ghost bus section, it creates a intriguing backstory, and throws a few twists into the mix. The acting and the direction are also very well done with stars like Anna paqin before her true blood days. Bryan singers direction is stylish and modern giving the movie a great look.

Now the No potion. While there are some great moments in each segment, there are a few cliched moments in each. Each portion has a weird sense of humor about itself which sometimes takes away from the full impact of the story. The biggest offender is this, while the movie is a godsend to Halloween fans it really is only a movie to watch during that time of year. It's still a good movie anytime but its magic really is tied to Halloween.

8/10 Outside of Halloween this is a good movie just not magical. A must watch during Halloween though.
